One of the best music blogs I've seen for a while is Ghost Capital posting genuinely obscure vinyl. Real world music, no tofu, no wheatgrass. Here is a Soundcloud sample of a great post of L’Orchestre Nationale de Mauritanie.

Some 'music brut' from the man called Dubuffet at the incredible Ubu Can't download it but worth a listen if you like random cacophony. I am playing it at the same time as some trendy Hoxtonite lo fi and it works an absolute treat.

And more commendably obscure randomness at The More You Think About It . This is described as 'an avant-garde drum suite'.

Recommended Mix

Must mention this fine mix which has been standing out for me over the last few weeks on the commute. I found it on Infinite State Machine and it's by Toby Frith, who's part of (or possibly the main man at) Bleep43, a site I will now one day check out. It's a retro-fresh Italo-y treat though I found it a bit slow to start though so I suggest getting in at 15 minutes or so. Here mix. Um enjoy um.

Fine mix on a downbeat folksy vibe from King Creosote at OLO Radio LA Foghorns. Strong Beta Band influence here I reckon, featuring four tracks from ex-member Lone Pidgeon (who is also apparently KC's brother I just found out on Wikipedia)



Sonic Sunset out of Chicago's mixes use sounds from all over the electronic music spectrum. Check their latest, Lighter Path which ends in half an hour of achingly perfect techno.



A great album of Kerouac readings at Pathway To Unknown Worlds, that's been throwing up all kinds of nice treats on the shuffle through my lovely new Sennheisers. Really realising that reading aloud adds another dimension to Kerouac's amazingly vibrant work. Some of the best readers include Michael Stipe, John Cale and Eric Andersen. Edit - this blog is now 'open to invited readers only'. If anyone reading knows how to get me invited to this blog please email me at wooodenelephant@yahoo.co.uk. This is the 5th or 6th time this has happened and I'm losing a lot of good links here!!!

A handful of recs for y'all tonight. First up Bacoso has a rare Yusef Lateef session cut in 58 over here. Beautiful stuff, Lateef's blissed sax soars over seriously earthy percussion. Features a 'scraped ram's horn'. Damn that's right...



Four Tet's still on fire. Don’t sleep on his mix over at RA (log-in is a pain but free). Just heard about a site called Allez Allez over at Brownswood, which also has a couple of mixes by the prolific Mr Hebden, one here and the other on the main page, May 1st. Some other tasty looking mixes here too.



Always a few good mixes in the Brownswood Beatcave. For those of you like to go waaaaaaayyyy back check this doo wap etc mix from Marc-Ocho whose blog is here.



Sublime stuff from DJ Bwyse of Talking In Stereo with two installments of ‘Salty Disco’ on a chilled California vibe. Vol 2 is here and Vol 1 is here.

Life has failed to meet my high expectations once again so I've decided to lay down and hit you with some linkin'

Those who wanted me to reup my Moodymann rareties will be heartened by tracks on offer at Boards Of Electronica. I've also been digging their I:Cube uploads lately. Sadly my own Moodymann compilation no longer exists, except distributed all over my DVDs-of-mp3s archives which would take hours to recompile. Sorry, I should've saved a copy in my hard drive. I'll sort another one out in the future. Same goes for the Radiohead remixes - but those will be a bit easier to regather.

Sad but unsurprised to see Swami's given up the ghost but A Great Work Of Fiction will at least fill the void left by Church Number 9 particularly with its recent posting of all ten of Thurston Moore's recommended underground jazz albums.

Another promising new blog is Boogie No More, including all ten of Irma Records's lushly packaged and superhip Easy Tempo compilations. Volume 5 was one of the first vinyls I bought and features Stephano Torossi's Running Fast - which is one of those tracks that is quite simply perfection.

Long may New Mixes continue. As well as providing Gilles-a-plenty including this awesome Brownswood show and a Moodymann interview they've also got John Digweed's Transitions from London's Kiss FM including recent sessions from Gui Boratto, Terry Francis and Chris Fortier.

Also worth registering at Resident Advisor just to grab this indecently good mix by Tyger Dhula of Cobblestone Jazz. You can't sleep on these mixes, by the way.

And one of my links I don't see around so much is OLO Radio which right now has this tasty mix by Lacuna (no, me neither - as is the case with most of the selectors here).

Once again, in a nerdy way, I have to big up my link list. Its a highly diverse but highly select group!
